The public sphere in the Republic of Moldova has been shaken by serious allegations made during a broadcast hosted by former politician Cristian Rizea, who presented what he described as “clear evidence” of alleged political interference in the judiciary in Chișinău.
During the program, messages were made public which, according to the host, represent a conversation conducted via the Viber messaging platform between lawyer Eduard Digore — whom Rizea identified as President Maia Sandu’s personal attorney — and Ion Guzun, President of the Superior Council of Magistracy (CSM).
Rizea claimed that the alleged exchange of messages suggests direct communication between political circles and the leadership of the judicial system, implying influence at the highest level.
“Last night, we witnessed what can only be described as a judicial red-handed situation. For the first time, evidence has been presented that appears to show, in black and white, how the justice system in the Republic of Moldova is politically coordinated. If these facts are confirmed, we are facing an extremely serious situation for the rule of law,” Cristian Rizea stated during the broadcast.
The host further argued that such a situation would normally trigger immediate institutional responses.
“In a functioning democratic state, such revelations would be followed by urgent investigations and firm measures. We cannot speak about judicial reform while there are suspicions of political intervention at the very top of the system,” he added.
Cristian Rizea also issued a public call to the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova, urging lawmakers to initiate impeachment proceedings against President Maia Sandu.
As of now, there has been no official confirmation regarding the authenticity of the messages presented, and the institutions involved have not issued a detailed response. In the absence of an official investigation or judicial findings, the allegations remain public claims.
