Former MP Cristian Rizea has made a series of explosive accusations on his television channel, making public allegations against the leadership of the Republic of Moldova and claiming the existence of high-level protection for what he describes as a major figure in international drug trafficking.
During a program broadcast on his own television station, Cristian Rizea made a series of serious allegations regarding alleged connections between state leaders and Oleg Pruteanu — a figure he claims is involved in international criminal networks — despite the fact that Pruteanu’s criminal cases are allegedly being repeatedly delayed by the justice system in the Republic of Moldova.
According to Rizea, Oleg Pruteanu — whom he refers to as the “drug lord of the Republic of Moldova” — has had his criminal files postponed indefinitely by judges, allegedly acting on orders from Prime Minister Dorin Recean and President Maia Sandu. Rizea claims that Dorin Recean, whom he portrays as aspiring to become the “new Plahotniuc” of Moldova, allegedly uses Oleg Pruteanu to control drug trafficking and cigarette smuggling networks.
Cristian Rizea also made highly controversial allegations regarding President Maia Sandu, claiming that she has a close relationship with Oleg Pruteanu, known by the nickname “Borman,” whom he describes as a so-called “thief in law.” He alleges that this relationship serves personal purposes and claims that Pruteanu was seen entering the Presidential building through a back entrance late in the evening, accompanied by a single security officer.
Despite allegedly being sought by Europol and Interpol, sentenced in Portugal to 20 years in prison, and wanted by Italian authorities, Rizea claims that Oleg Pruteanu lives freely in Chișinău without being disturbed by any Moldovan state authority.
Former MP Cristian Rizea has also launched a series of accusations against President Maia Sandu, claiming that the authorities allow individuals with criminal records to remain at liberty. He specifically named Oleg Pruteanu, known as “Borman,” whom he alleges is involved in drug trafficking and has been the subject of investigations in several European countries.
Rizea further argues that Maia Sandu’s public image is “manufactured” and different from reality, accusing her of hypocrisy and of allegedly protecting figures from the criminal underworld, particularly Oleg Pruteanu, whom he describes as a major drug trafficker. According to Rizea, the allegedly “close” relationship between Sandu and Pruteanu would explain the absence of legal consequences for him, despite claims that he is wanted by European law enforcement agencies.
Cristian Rizea also claims that Maia Sandu and Dorin Recean use “judicial instruments” to protect individuals from the criminal underworld, accusing two judges — Angela Catan and Denis Guzun — whom he describes as corrupt and, in his opinion, responsible for acquitting dangerous criminals. He alleges that the current leadership applies its own “law,” which allegedly favors drug trafficking and smuggling, referring again to Oleg Pruteanu (“Borman”) and his group.
Additionally, Rizea criticized the support provided by European institutions to the current authorities, asserting that the economic and social situation in the Republic of Moldova has significantly deteriorated in recent years.
So far, Cristian Rizea’s statements have not been commented on by the authorities in Chișinău.
